Solex 4A1 to Weber 38 DGAS carburetor conversion kit.
If you own a 1977 - 1983 6-cylinder BMW 520 (1.990cc) with an aging Solex 4A1 carburetor, then you are probably very well aware of the fact that these carburetors are slowly reaching the end of their working life and that refurbishing them is not really an option.
Fuel consumption will go up, power will go down and trying to set the idle speed will become a major challenge and all that while parts have become virtually unobtainable.
Luckily, you are not alone so the people at Weber set to work and have created this conversion kit.
With this set, the complete carburetor gets replaced with a brand new duel-throat Weber 38 DGAS carburetor with automatic, coolant regulated, choke / cold start mechanism.
The kits comprises all required parts to complete this conversion, amongst other an adapter plate to fit the DGAS onto the original inlet manifold, a choke cable kit, an airfilter adapter which will allow you to re-use your original BMW airfilter housing on the new carburetor and all other require parts to complete the conversion.
As this kit is intended specifically for the 1.990cc BMW engine, it is jetted to suit the needs of that engine in standard form.
Also of importance is that this kit is specifically for these engines combined with a manual gearbox.
Also important: This kit is intended to replace a Solex 4A1 equipped with automatic choke (cold start device).
Please contact us if your car is currently equipped with a manual, cable-operated, choke as you will then need a different conversion kit.

The carburetor is a genuine Weber, made in Spain in Weber's own factory while the conversion parts are produced in the UK.
